XXVIIIth Small Arms and Cannons Symposium, Shrivenham, UK, 19-21 August 2014

Overview

The 28th European Small Arms and Cannons Symposium is to be hosted by the Defence Academy of the UK under the auspices of the Capability Directorate-Combat. The theme is ‘Maintaining the Dismounted Close Combat Platoon’s Lethal Edge until 2030’.

What is this event about?

This Capability Directorate Combat Small Arms Symposium will concentrate on how to optimise existing equipment to 2025; how to improve training, how to optimise structures, what new equipment is required from 2025 and indeed what is the likely threat from 2025-2035. The aim of this premier event is to address those issues by looking in detail at:

• Today's optimum platoon weapon mix?
• The key requirements for the 2025 platoon weapon systems?
• Horizon-scanning - what will the threats be in 2025?
• Smarter training - what are the limits of simulation for lethality training?
• Smarter training - how better can we deliver combat marksmen today?
• Psychology of suppression?
• What is the future of Scout, Warrior CSP and 40mm?

Unique Firing Range Demonstration

For the first time in the 28 year history of this annual symposium, a full live firing range day is being organised. It will be a day of opportunity for suppliers to allow customers and visitors within the industry to experience their latest weapon designs, sighting systems, tripods etc. The Land Warfare Centre range is cleared for 5.56mm, 7.62mm and .338inch firing NATO standard ammo. Displays

We offer companies, departments and establishments an opportunity to display their equipment or advertise their capability within the DCC Conference Hall throughout the event. In addition, those same organisations have a unique opportunity to have a presence at the live firing practice.

Submitting an Abstract

You can make a major contribution by presenting a paper to complement those provided by invited speakers to address the questions listed above. Papers on related areas are also welcome.
